Dr. Spencer R. Fusselman, Shihan

Lead Pastor
- 2 Time U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee
- Warriors for Christ International Hall of Fame Inductee
- Founder and Chief Instructor of Shinja Kenpo Karate
- Founder of Iron Lotus Martial Arts Association.

A three-time Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee and a 7th-degree black belt,  Dr. Spencer R. Fusselman, Shihan,  is a master instructor, innovator, and the founder of the Shinja Kenpo Karate system and the Iron Lotus Martial Arts Association. His journey is a testament to a lifetime's pursuit of a single, powerful ideal: the development of the "holistic warrior." This core philosophy, blending rigorous spiritual, mental, and physical discipline, was forged through a remarkable career as a U.S. Army veteran, a pastor, and a dedicated martial artist.

Shihan Fusselman's path began, as many do, in a kids' karate class at the YMCA. This early spark grew into a flame as he began cross-training as a Jr. Instructor in Shou Shu Kung Fu while studying Shotokan. It was his time in the U.S. Army, however, that re-awakened and focused his passion. Training in Military Combatives and earning certification in Army hand-to-hand combat in Hawaii, he came to understand that true readiness required more than physical prowess. This realization guided him as he became a Chaplain in the Army Reserve, a role where the integration of spirit, mind, and body became his central mission.

Drawing from over 27 years of deep experience across a vast landscape of martial arts—including Shotokan, American Wrestling, Shou Shu Kung Fu, Shaolin Kempo, Military Combatives (MACP, Bjj, and Striking), American Kenpo, Shinja Buke Ryu, and Shinja Arnis de Mano—Shihan Fusselman began the monumental work of creating a new system. As a local pastor, he sought to bridge the profound gap between physical training and spiritual discipleship. The result was Shinja Kenpo Karate.

What sets Shinja Kenpo apart is its revolutionary teaching method, deeply rooted in the sciences of biomechanics and kinesiology. Shihan Fusselman challenges students to move beyond rote memorization, demanding they analyze the core principles of human motion. By understanding the why behind every technique, students develop elite critical thinking and problem-solving skills, training the mind as intensely as the body.

The development of this groundbreaking system was guided by the tutelage of Grand Master John Enger of Shinja Martial Arts University, which first awarded Shihan Fusselman his 5th Dan upon the art's international recognition. As he continued to deepen the system's complex theological framework, the University's Masters Council elevated him to 6th Dan.

The art underwent a significant evolution in 2025 after Shihan Fusselman completed an immense study integrating advanced biomechanical principles into its core curriculum. Culminating this new level of mastery, his founder's status was formally solidified with an unexpected 7th Dan recognition from Hanshi Geoffery Spohn through the InterContinental Martial Arts Union.

Today, Shihan Fusselman's vision has expanded to four locations across New Mexico and Alaska. He is now developing a national instructor program to certify other church leaders, empowering them to use Shinja Kenpo Karate as a powerful family discipleship ministry. It is more than a martial art; it is a ministry dedicated to forging holistic believers (Shinja)—spiritually disciplined, mentally sharp, and physically prepared to answer their calling.

Dr. (Rev.) Steven W. Hamilton, Hanshi

President, Grand Masters Council

Founder and Chief Instructor,
Shotojukukia Karate-Do of Albuquerque

Dr. Steven W. Hamilton’s life embodies his personal motto: “Parting the clouds seeking the way.” He teaches that Karate-Do is not merely a physical practice but a spiritual and lifelong journey toward self-understanding and respect. For him, the discipline of the dojo, the focus of the soldier, and the compassion of the chaplain are not separate paths, but interwoven threads in a single way of life dedicated to mastery, integrity, and service.
Dr. Hamilton is a distinguished and exceptionally accomplished martial artist, decorated military veteran, and dedicated spiritual leader whose life has been a testament to discipline, service, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. His journey seamlessly blends the warrior ethos of the U.S. Army Special Forces with the profound principles of traditional Karate-Do and the compassionate service of ministry.
Dr. Hamilton's path in martial arts began at the age of thirteen. His foundational training in Jujitsu, where he earned a brown belt in 1972, quickly evolved as he embarked on a decorated military career. While serving at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he achieved his 1st Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1973. His service with the elite U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets) from 1970 to 1990 provided the ultimate crucible for his skills. As a Green Beret, he became a specialist in Telecommunications (18E), Demolitions/Engineering (18C), and advanced legal and administrative codes, while also graduating from Sniper School, Winter Survival Training, and both Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Courses.
It was during his time in the 5th Special Forces Group that his military and martial arts paths formally converged. In 1977, the U.S. Army certified him as an Instructor in Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), officially recognizing his expertise for high-level military application. Parallel to this, he immersed himself in Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate-Do, achieving the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in 1978. His competitive prowess was undeniable, as he remained undefeated in both Jiyu Ippon Kumite and Kata from 1977 to 1980.
In 1979, Dr. Hamilton's journey led him to the heart of traditional karate in Tokyo, Japan. There, he began training in Shotokan with the legendary Hirokazu Kanazawa, Kancho, at the Japan Karate Association (JKA). He earned his JKA 1st Degree Black Belt and completed the rigorous Instructors Certification course in 1980. Seeking a path of greater integrity beyond organizational politics, he later reconnected with his mentor, Kancho Kanazawa, through the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF), where he was awarded a lifetime membership.
His dedication to the martial arts is characterized by a profound commitment to continuous learning. Over the years, he has earned black belts in multiple disciplines, including:
Shotokan Karate-do (8th Degree Black Belt)
Koga Ryu Ninjutsu (1st Degree Black Belt)
Aikido (1st Degree Black Belt)
Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do (1st Degree Black Belt, 1994)
Okinawa Kobudo (Weapons) (1st Degree Black Belt)
His expertise was further recognized in 1995 when he was awarded the status of Judge A by the Texas Karate-do Federation Referee Council, qualifying him to judge at the highest levels of competition, including events sanctioned by the World Karate Federation (WKF) for the Olympic Games. He has been awarded progressively higher ranks, including the title of Renshi (Polished Master) at his 6th Dan promotion in 2004 and ultimately achieving the esteemed rank of Hachidan (8th Degree Black Belt) and the title of Hanshi (Grandmaster).
Beginning in 1980, Dr. Hamilton embarked on a parallel journey of spiritual service that has spanned over four decades. His deep commitment to faith and community is reflected in his Honorary Doctorate of Divinity and his extensive work as an ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI), where he has served as a Pastor, District Presbyter, and currently as the District Chaplain for the Texico District.
Dr. Hamilton has dedicated himself to providing guidance and support in some of society's most challenging environments. He served as a Police Chaplain for both the Austin Police Department in Texas and the Albuquerque Police Department in New Mexico. Furthermore, he worked as a Prison Chaplain within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), ministering at both a 2000-bed minimum-security facility and a 500-bed maximum-security prison.
Complementing his spiritual guidance, Dr. Hamilton is a licensed Nouthetic Counselor (Biblical Counseling), a certified Anger Management Counselor, and an Anger Management Facilitator, bringing a professional, therapeutic dimension to his lifelong work of helping others navigate conflict and find a better path.

Master Robin Webb

Head Masters Council

Master Robin Webb began his martial arts journey in 1981 under the instruction of Grandmaster Kang Rhee, training in the PaSaRyu Martial Arts system—a unique blend of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Kung Fu. Just one rank away from earning his black belt, Master Webb was involved in two serious automobile accidents in 1983, resulting in severe injuries and a prolonged recovery in a back brace. Despite being told he would never again engage in physical activity, he demonstrated exceptional perseverance and went on to earn his 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Dan black belts under Grandmaster Rhee.

Master Webb trained extensively in the PaSaRyu system until 1993, when he experienced what he describes as a “divine spiritual encounter.” This pivotal moment led him to step away on the night of his 5th Dan promotion and redirect his focus toward integrating his faith with his martial arts practice.

Following this experience, Master Webb began developing a Christian-based martial arts system called Disciples of Discipline, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Over the years, he expanded his training to include Hapkido, Aikido, and Krav Maga, ultimately evolving the Disciples of Discipline concept into what is now known as Curtana Martial Arts—The Sword of Mercy. This integrated system brings together key elements from multiple disciplines and is taught in Fort Collins, Colorado.

In addition to martial arts instruction, Master Webb founded the S.E.R.T. (Security Emergency Response Training) program, designed specifically to train church security teams. He also provides personal protection services for high-profile Christian evangelists and musical artists.

In 2016, Master Webb was certified as an Executive Protection Specialist by Professor Marty Cale through Krav Maga Tactical Training Options. In recognition of his dedication and contributions to the martial arts community, he was nominated by Grandmaster Gerry Welch and inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2018, receiving the Distinguished Service Silver Award. His achievements continued in 2024, when he received multiple promotions:
  • 5th Dan in Black Dragon Systems of Self Defense from Grandmaster Gregory Robinson
  • 6th Dan in True Force Tae Kwon Do from Grandmaster Michael Hornsby
  • 6th Dan in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do Alliance, awarded jointly by Grandmasters Michael Hornsby and Dan Roberts

Master Robin Webb’s career exemplifies resilience, innovation, and faith-driven leadership in the martial arts world.

 Rev. Patrick Anaya Sensei

Head Masters Council

For Sensei Patrick Anaya, the path of the martial artist and the path of faith are one and the same—a journey of discipline, resilience, and service that began in 1990 with his first steps in Kajukenbo. His early training sparked a lifelong passion, leading him to explore a diverse array of martial arts disciplines throughout his college years. However, his true calling was revealed when he discovered a Christian Karate club, a moment that fused his martial pursuits with a profound call to ministry.

With over 25 years of dedicated service in professional ministry before his formal ordination in May of 2022, Sensei Patrick’s life has been a testament to his twin passions for the Gospel and the martial arts. He trained diligently under Master Fusselman to earn his instructor credentials and 1st Dan, but his journey has been defined by more than just technique—it has been forged in the fires of adversity.

Sensei Patrick’s spirit was tested when a debilitating foot injury threatened his mobility. Refusing to be defeated, he channeled his unyielding will into his training, not only rehabilitating himself but achieving what once seemed impossible: earning his Black Belt. This victory was a prelude to an even greater challenge. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he spent the majority of 2021 hospitalized, facing immense physical setbacks and strain on his family. Yet, his spirit remained unbroken. Upon his release, he became a beacon of inspiration, redoubling his commitment to his health, his students, and his ministry.

It was from these personal battles with mobility that his most significant contribution was born. Recognizing a critical gap in self-defense, Sensei Anaya founded the Iron Lotus Practical Cane Defense System. He saw that traditional cane fighting styles ignored the real-world needs of the elderly and individuals with mobility disabilities. Rejecting flashy, impractical techniques, he engineered a revolutionary system from the ground up. The Iron Lotus method transforms a simple mobility aid into a powerful tool for stability, confidence, and personal protection, offering genuine peace of mind to those who need it most.

In recognition of his enduring spirit and profound contributions to the community, Sensei Patrick Anaya was honored with an induction into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Today, he continues to faithfully serve the Lord on and off the mats, leading Iron Lotus Martial Arts with a no-nonsense approach to self-defense rooted deeply in Christian discipleship and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, empowered, and confident.

Rebecca Fusselman Sensei

Operations

Every great journey begins with a single step, and for Sensei Becca Anaya, that first step onto the mats in 2011 was a reluctant one. Yet, what began in hesitation quickly blossomed into a profound passion that would redefine her path. She fell in love with the discipline, strength, and spirit of martial arts, dedicating herself to the Rosales Kajukenbo system. She earned the coveted rank of black belt and the distinguished title of “Sibak” in the Kajukenbo system.

Through more than a decade of relentless dedication, she honed her skills, not only embracing the art but also pursuing continuous growth through cross-training in Shinja Kenpo Karate. Her perseverance culminated in March of 2023,  when she earned her 1st degree in Shinja Kenpo Karate, later earning Second in May of 2025.

However, for Sensei Becca, the journey of martial arts is intrinsically linked to her deeper calling to serve God and her community. Answering the call to Christian Karate Ministry, she has become an integral pillar of Iron Lotus Martial Arts, where she faithfully supports her husband’s ministry and honors God through her teaching. She found a special purpose in mentoring and guiding the next generation of martial artists.

This calling to empower others found its most powerful expression in her discipleship work with the female warriors of the dojo. Her commitment to building not just strong martial artists, but also confident, faith-filled women, created a lasting impact that rippled through the community. It is for this deeply personal and transformative ministry that she was honored by the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame with the prestigious “Changing Lives Award.”

Today, Sensei Becca stands as a powerful example of how a hesitant beginning can lead to an inspiring legacy of leadership, faith, and empowerment.
